Services

The PAI (Preferred Alternatives Inc.) Supported Employment for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SEDHH) program provides supported employment services, including supplemental evaluation and/or community based assessment, job development, intensive training and long term follow-up, as well as work adjustment job coaching for persons who use sign language to communicate. These services are all provided in their native language in order to greatly improve their chances for success in obtaining and maintaining employment.

The long term follow-up consists of ongoing support services in which there are contacts with the consumer and/or employer at least twice monthly at the work site unless stated in the individuals file by documentation in the form of a signed statement requesting to cease these services.

These services are all unique in that the job coaches are themselves deaf or near native signers. They all have proven employment records and English skills that prove their ability to effectively communicate with hearing employers as well. They act as role models for achieving employment in the hearing world by demonstrating the successful techniques that they have used themselves to be successful. They act as language, social skills and employment role models.
